Lifetime
SENS devices have extremely low power consumption because the processing complexity has been moved from the endpoint device to the receiver, the SENS Appliqué.
SENS based products have the longest battery life of any similar devices on the market today. They use high-density lithium primary batteries. The internal batteries will last 7 years for twice-daily location reports. Faster update rates will reduce the battery life of the product.
Size
At a mere three square inches, the STU2 modem is the world’s smallest industrial-use satellite transmitter available for use by product developers. It's size enables field devices with smaller footprints than traditional devices.
LEO Satellites
• Orbit Earth in altitudes up to 1,500 km
• Rotate the Earth in ‘constellations’
• Short distance to satellite so lower power transmitters / smaller antennae
• Use omni-directional antenna (no need to point in a specific direction)
• Constellation still functions even if one satellite fails
SENS Data Services
• 1-way communication from sensor
• Endpoint device sends message redundantly
• Typically 8-10 byte data bursts (CPDMA)
• Endpoint device has TX hardware (L-band)
• Enables: Battery-operated packet-telemetry applications, scalable to millions of devices |
