Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Announces Successful
FIPS 140-2 Certification Related to Its BFT-2 Network
Initiative
MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan 13, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via
COMTEX News Network) -- Comtech Telecommunications
Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced today that its Maryland-based
subsidiary, Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation (CMDC),
received a FIPS 140-2 Validation Certification from
the National Institute for Standards and Technology
(NIST) for its satellite network's cryptographic library
modules which are incorporated into Comtech's Blue
Force Tracking-2 (BFT-2) Network initiative.
Fred Kornberg,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications
Corp. stated, "We
are extremely pleased to receive this FIPS 140-2 Validation
Certification. This certification of our satellite
network infrastructure is an achievement that further
demonstrates how our BFT-2 solution meets emerging
and critical U.S. military needs. The FIPS 140-2 technology
is incorporated into our BFT-2 satellite network and
satellite transceiver and is compatible with our existing
BFT and Movement Tracking System (MTS) networks. Comtech's
BFT-2 solution is ready for field deployment, specifically
addresses the U.S. Army's warfighters' demand for increased
bandwidth and network speed, and is backward compatible
with the more than 100,000 first generation Comtech-designed
BFT satellite transceivers already deployed.
The FIPS
140-2 validation for cryptographic modules is obtained
through the National Institute of Standards and Technology,
the United States FIPS 140-2 Cryptographic Module Validation
Authority, as well as the Communications Security Establishment,
Canada's FIPS 140-2 Cryptographic Module Validation
Authority.
