Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $7.3 Million
Order for BFT Transceivers to Support Immediate Needs
MELVILLE, N.Y., Sep 29, 2009 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX
News Network) -- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL)
announced today that its Maryland-based subsidiary,
Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation, received net orders
aggregating $2.4 million (including a $7.3 million
order for BFT transceivers) under its current BFT contract.
Total orders received to date against this $216.0 million
contract increased to $213.8 million.
In order to support immediate needs of the U.S. Army's
Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below -- Blue
Force Tracking ("BFT") program, the U.S.
Army placed a $7.3 million order for the supply of
our MT-2011 mobile satellite transceiver and related
engineering and support services. The U.S. Army canceled
a previously placed purchase order of $5.0 million
for certain satellite air-time in order to place this
new order within the confines of the current contract
ceiling. We expect that the BFT program office will
reorder the canceled satellite services when additional
funding becomes available and the contract ceiling
is increased.
Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer
of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said, "We
believe this order demonstrates the importance that
our BFT products and services play in meeting current
and future U.S. Army operational requirements. Our
MT-2011 transceivers will seamlessly integrate with
our backward compatible next-generation Adaptive Multiple-User
Detection technology that is currently being deployed
throughout the U.S. Army's global BFT network, and
which enables a significant improvement in overall
system performance and an increase in the number of
possible concurrent network users. We look forward
to our continued involvement in the BFT Program and
other critical programs for the Department of Defense."
