Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $2.5 Million Purchase
Order Amendment for NATO Force Tracking System
MELVILLE, N.Y., Feb 06, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Comtech Telecommunications
Corp. (NASDAQ:CMTL) announced today that its Maryland-based subsidiary,
Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation, received a purchase order
amendment totaling $2.5 million to its ongoing NATO Afghanistan
Force Tracking System (NATO AFTS) subcontract with Globecomm Systems
Inc. Orders received by Comtech under the NATO AFTS subcontract
total $4.4 Million.
Under the terms of the amended order, CMDC will develop and
deliver an interoperability extension to the Force Tracking System
member of its family of geoOpsTM software products. The new feature
set will support bi-directional blue force track data exchange
between AFTS and participating NATO Nation Force Tracking Systems
(FTS). This additional AFTS capability will give the International
Security Assistance Force (ISAF) ground forces near real-time
heads-up map visibility of all friendly forces operating within
the Afghanistan Theatre.
Using the recently-approved NATO Friendly Force Information
(NFFI) data exchange protocol, different force tracking systems,
such as the U.S. FBCB2 Blue Force Tracker and AFTS will exchange
friendly (blue force) position information and seamlessly display
that information on their individual tactical situational awareness
screens. ISAF soldiers from 37 nations will receive up-to-the-minute
latitude/longitude information for all participating friendly
forces in the region, a feature that significantly enhances each
force's ability to avoid "friendly fire" or "blue-on-blue" engagements.
This integrated toolset will provide critical enhancements to
command and control, battlefield situational awareness and the
"synchronization of forces," a key element in all coalition operations.
The initial work on this effort is expected to conclude in April
2007, with the final delivery of a full Joint Variable Message
Format (JVMF) interface capability expected in the fall of 2007.
Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech
Telecommunications Corp., said, "We are extremely pleased to receive
this order, expanding the capabilities and use of our geoOpsTM
software products within the NATO force structure."
