As the prime contractor for the Movement Tracking System (MTS),
Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation is a proven provider of friendly
(blue force) position reports and text messages for Army logistics
vehicles. MTS operates over multiple satellites worldwide, as
part of a fully encrypted, packet-data network. Techniques such
as spread-spectrum modulation and short burst transmissions help
to provide security and low probability of intercept/detect characteristics
to ensure the safety and security of the warfighter.
The heart of the CMDC system is the MT-2011 satellite transceiver
for sending and receiving messages and position reports. The MT-2011
is a compact, rugged, all solid-state device with no moving parts.
It is this proven combination of transceiver and network that
the Army selected for a critical mission - dissemination of situational
awareness to the warfighter in Operations Iraqi Freedom (OIF)
and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Interfacing the Comtech
Mobile Datacom communications technology with the Force XXI Battle
Command Brigade and Below (FBCB2) system has resulted in a OTH/OTM
capability to share Blue Force Tracking situational awareness
among ground vehicles and aviation units. The Army system has
been installed on U.S. Marine Corps, as well as British Army vehicles
to provide joint and coalition situational awareness.
Currently, CMDC's transceivers are installed on Abrams tanks,
Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Apache, Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters
and HMMWVs. All systems share a common situational awareness picture
and can exchange C2 and text messages in near real-time. The systems
on the Abrams and Bradley were thoroughly tested and safety certified
at Aberdeen Proving Grounds by the Army Test & Evaluation
Command. Flight certifications were conducted by the Army Aviation
Test Directorate.
CMDC's support of OIF and OEF includes delivering MT-2011 transceivers,
leasing satellite capacity, operating the satellite packet-data
network and providing associated systems support, engineering
and maintenance.
Since November 2002, CMDC has delivered many thousands of transceivers
to FBCB2 Blue Force Tracking, signed bandwidth leases on three
satellite systems for diversity, and installed and made operational
the complete network with location and link redundancy. Coverage
is provided over Europe, the Middle East, Western Asia and North
Africa. Comtech Mobile Datacom is driving toward the highest possible
reliability, availability and redundancy.
Comtech Mobile Datacom is very proud to have been selected by
the Army leadership to provide this unique communications capability
to our warfighters, along with providing MTS, the key enabler
to the logistics community.
